Individual Counseling (Singapore & Online)

Individual counseling aims to empower you to make healthy decisions that promote your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Counseling can help you develop valuable skills in areas such as managing emotions, improving focus, strengthening self-esteem, setting and achieving goals, and living with purpose.

What is Individual Counseling?

Individual counseling is a one-on-one therapy session between you and a professional counselor in a safe and confidential setting. These sessions can be conducted either in person or online and focus on "talk therapy" to address your concerns.

Individual counseling is highly effective in treating various mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, OCD, and PTSD.

It can also help you navigate personal challenges like grief, stress, or adjusting to new life situations, such as moving to a new country.

At Counseling Perspective, we offer individual counseling for adults, as well as teen counseling and child counseling.

What Can I Expect From Individual Counseling?

The counseling process starts with your first session, where you'll meet your therapist and begin building a connection.

Your therapist will create a welcoming, judgment-free environment where you can openly explore your feelings, challenges, and goals. They’ll ask questions to help you clarify what you want to achieve from therapy, and together, you’ll develop a personalized treatment plan.

In your follow-up sessions, your counselor may use different therapeutic approaches based on your needs. For example, CBT is often used for depression, anxiety, or eating disorders, while EMDR can be effective for trauma and compulsive behaviors. In essence, individual therapy is about focusing on what works best for you and how to achieve it.

Does Individual Therapy Actually Work?

Individual psychotherapy is a compassionate, evidence-based approach to treatment. Research shows that it effectively reduces symptoms of moderate to major depression and anxiety.

For many conditions, psychotherapy can be just as effective, if not more so, than taking medication, without the side effects often associated with psychotropic drugs. The benefits of good therapy also extend beyond the treatment period. Studies indicate that clients who undergo psychotherapy experience fewer relapses of depression and anxiety compared to those treated with medication.

Success in therapy can sometimes be achieved in a short time. Many of our clients meet or exceed their goals within just a few weeks of weekly sessions—sometimes, even a single session can make a difference.  For individuals with more complex issues, a longer course of therapy, lasting months or even years, may be more beneficial.
